Ikigai is a powerful Japanese concept that means “a reason of being”. It was first utilized by the Okinawans in Japan to convey the reason one gets up in the morning and fulfill their purpose in life. Many attribute Okinawans’ exemplary good health and longevity to this fact. Interestingly enough, ikigai also plays an important role in their lifestyles and diets. Having a clearly defined ikigai brings not only satisfaction and happiness but also meaning to our lives.
